The Geezer Staying Young?

I saw this post recently by the happy hugger at link, Daily Prompt: Forever Young « Hope* the happy hugger. It reminded me that I’m a geezer and sparked a little reflection on what I do at work, at home, and about what I do for the important people in my life–and how I would like to be remembered. In my role as a psychiatric consultant in the general hospital, I gas about how to prevent and manage delirium. But younger clinicians are coming up behind me and have newer, fresher ideas, smarter approaches, more flexible protocols, more imaginative visions which are more inclusive of other health care professionals. Thank goodness. I’m reminded of that cute commercial with quarterback Cam Newton and the up and coming kid:

And I’m also aware of other roles: husband, friend, blogger, volunteer in the federally-underfunded multicenter study of thuringer-based economies of scale for free-range, break-dancing koala bears and so on. None of us are one-dimensional and maybe staying young means to expand our consciousness of that and how it enriches our connections with each other. Maybe staying young is as much about the path to the goal as the goal itself.

Happy holidays!
