Iowa Medical Society Help with Health Insurance Marketplace

I thought I would just pass along the Iowa Medical Society (IMS) guidance on Iowa Health Insurance Marketplace resources, which is at link, Iowa Medical Society – News health insurance marketplace.

It has practical and useful information on what the Health Insurance Marketplace means for Iowans. Some of the links I’ve already posted on my website, such as the Federal Government website for consumers.

However, there is an explanation of how the Iowa Health & Awareness Plan fits into the picture. The Iowa Health & Wellness plan is replacing the IowaCare program, which expires December 31, 2013. The Department of Human Services (DHS) will verify the income level of current IowaCare patients and administratively transfer qualifying patients into coverage under the Wellness or Marketplace Choice Plan. And the thing to remember:

Note: Iowa Medicaid continues to await CMS approval of the State Plan Amendments necessary to implement these new coverage plans. Individuals with an income level below 138% FPL will not be able to enroll in the Wellness or Marketplace Choice Plans when open enrollment begins October 1, 2013.

Unfortunately, what I think that means is that there will be some people who won’t be able to enroll for coverage until the first of the year in 2014.

As I posted recently, look for updates about the Iowa Health & Wellness Plan at Iowa Health and Wellness Plan.

There are Town Hall informational meetings scheduled as well, and you can view it here.

There are FAQs at the IMS website (for which I thank them). Just ask for help.
