“Leadership is a choice, not a position.”–Stephen R. Covey

The little corporate boardroom tyrant in the commercial is not my idea of a leader. I have seen leaders and known a few. I regularly complain about leaders like the tiny boardroom tyrant. There are tyrants in our major boards, in fact.

The real leaders don’t shake their fingers in the faces of their constituents. They’re not always identified by their positions in a hierarchy. They may have few followers, or none at all. Often, they seem to tilt at windmills and they’re told that their ideas “…will not go anywhere.”

Leaders tend to write and speak with honesty and courage. This is what I took from a recent blog post from Psych Practice. Dr. Dawson has also written movingly.

Leaders say what’s on their minds and in their hearts. This is what I treasure.
