One of the residents stopped me in the hallway and suggested I add a link on my blog to a list of drugs which are associated with causing delirium. Check the menu below the header.
It’s a great idea and I wish I’d thought of it a long time ago. The caveat is that the list is very long and will probably always be incomplete. Therefore I added the Beers List, which is one of the better known lists of drugs to avoid in the elderly, mainly because they tend to produce or exacerbate delirium.
However, there is another list about which I’ve written in a previous post about the STOPP criteria for identifying inappropriate drugs in the elderly. Some experts argue that they may be superior to the Beers List. Here’s a link to an article about it. I think the Beers List is easier to use but if you have a different opinion, just let me know.
And now here’s another announcement you really want to hear. I tested my new pair of Darn Tough Socks today and you’ll be thrilled to know they held up very well. It was a slower than average day on the consult service, about 11 flights of stairs and a little over 3 miles on the run around the hospital. The unanswered question is whether Bernie Sanders wears them. As it says on the package, “There’s a whole lot of Bernie Sanders in each pair.”
